3 days jungle tour to El Zotz / Yatzal / Tikal

An amazing opportunity to travel the virgin jungle of the Mayas from the un-restored ruins of El Zotz to the largest Mayan city of all: Tikal.

On horseback or wandering beside packhorses through the environmentally protected biosphere you will see 100`s of bird and butterfly species, troops of howler and spider monkeys, snakes, scorpions and peccary.

This is also the home of the scarlet macaw, ocelot, puma and is the most likely place to sight the elusive jaguar.

Staying your first night at the conservationists camp you have the rare opportunity to learn about the flora and fauna from the locals who live, study and work in the jungle.

¨Zotz¨ means bat in Mayan and this biotope was created to protect the thousands of bats that live in the cliff-caves deep in the rainforest. You'll visit the escarpment at sunset in time to see the bats pour from their caves, a horizontal waterfall blackening the dusk and streaming out across the jungle while owls swoop and hunt amongst them.

The ruins of el Zots are very different from other sites in that they have not been touched or restored by archeologists, yet you may scramble up the many temples and explore the tunnels of the grave robbers. The most important is the pyramid of the Devil. Although covered with mud and moss, from it's top, you can see the temples of Tikal.

The devils cave, guarded by bush cats, is a huge cavern lined with weird rock formations and stalactites, the home to 1000`s of more bats. Very close encounters are inevitable!

Traveling towards Tikal and camping overnight in the jungle you have a real native and natural experience, an opportunity to witness the activities of creatures during both the night and day, and to take in incredible scenery.

Tikal translates toe ¨Where spirit voices are heard¨. These famous ruins are located in the middle of the Tikal National Park amid ceiba, zapote and mahogany trees where over 285 bird species reside.

Tikal is considered one of the most important Maya Cities. It's vast and has over 3000 structures within a 6 sq. mile radius. These include ball courts, palaces, streets, plazas, temples, baths and terraces in addition to great pyramids. This is a perfectly balanced and designed tour, both friendly and informative. It's eco tourism at its best and certainly should not be missed.
