San Miguel

San Miguel is the penninsula which faces the backside of Flores. To go there you have to take a boat from the opposite side of the bridge. (see map) It`s only one two minutes by boat to cross over and costs Q 5.

Once you reach San Miguel there are different options:

  • You can visit a beach (La Playita) with a view on San Jose. It`s a 20 minutes walk to get there. When you get dropped of by the boat you walk strait ahead for 50 meters and climb the stairs. You pass the local football field and a house with a fence and three barking dogs. Again you keep on going strait ahead through a forest untill you reach a sign which says: La Playita. Here you turn right. The beach is at the end of this road.

You can also take a direct boat to this beach from Flores. The boat leaves from the same place as the ones crossing over to San Miguel. A two way boatride from Flores to the beach costs Q 80. This amount has to be divided by the amount of people going!

Keep in mind: You have to pay an entrance fee of Q 5 to visit the beach and there is no food or drinks available there.

  • You can also visit a Mirador (viewing point from the photo) in San Miguel from where you can see the island and a big part of the lake. To reach it you walk to the sign of La Playita (see above) and instead of turning right to the beach, you turn left!

The guards will charge you another Q 5 entrance fee to go up the mirador!

  • The third option is to go for a good hike in San Miguel! Withion 10 minutes you feel in the middle of the jungle far away from the city! We suggest turning right when you arrive and following that road. A nice place to visit is the rescue Center Arcas. Just ask locals how to get there. It`s a 30 minutes walk! Arcas charges visitors Q 10 entrance fee!
