Buses from Flores to Finca Ixobel (Poptun)
Poptun is a city which is located in between Flores and Rio Dulce. Most
backpackers vist the city on the way to the hotel Finca Ixobel, which
is located at a 10 minutes distance from Poptun (by taxi).
Travellers who want to visit Finca Ixobel can do two things:
- The first option is to take a minibus from Santa Elena (Flores) to
Poptun. These minibuses leave every 15 minutes and take one and a half
hour to get there. These minibuses leave from the new bus terminal in
Santa Elena. (To get there you have to cross the bridge from the island
of Flores and just keep on going strait ahead untill the end of the
street. The price of the ride to Poptun is Q 20. In Poptun you can take
a taxi to the finca for approximately Q 25.
- The second option to go to Finca Ixobel is to take one of the buses from the company Fuente del Norte heading from Flores to Rio Dulce. (see the Rio Dulce chapter on the previous page) These buses pass in front of the entrance of Finca Ixobel. Ask the busdriver to drop you off there. The ride from Flores to the entrance of Finca Ixobel should cost Q 30.
Finca Ixobel is an ecological hotel located near Poptun in a pinetree forest. It`s a very relaxed place to hang out for a few days. You can swim in their small lake, do horseback riding tours or float down the river in a tube. Especially the food at the finca is famous!
