At 20 minutes by boat from Flores is the local zoo ¨El Petencito¨ where one can see most animals of the Guatemalan jungle, like scarlett macaws, jaguars, pizotes, crocodiles and dozens of more species.

The zoo includes a small island where the animals are loose. Most animals however are caged.

The best part of the zoo are the water slides which are freaking good and fast!

Boats to El Petencito leave all around the island. Most boats are docked on the opposite side of the bridge where the boats leave to San Miguel.

A tour to the zoo costs Q 80 per boat. This amount has to be divided by the amount of people going. The boat driver will wait for you while you visit the zoo for two hours.

Another option is to include a visit to a nice Mirador (viewing point) in San Miguel before going to El Petencito. This tour costs Q 110. (again divided by the amount of people on the boat.)

Keep in mind that the entrance to the zoo is Q 20 per person.
