Livingston

To go to Livingston from Flores you have to go through Rio Dulce (see chapter on buses from Flores to Rio Dulce on the previous page) Once you reach Rio Dulce there are constantly public boats leaving to Livingston.

The boatride takes about two hours and costs Q 75 for one way and Q 150 for a two way ticket. The boats leave from various docks but the best place to wait is at the main public dock under the bridge.

The boatride from Rio Dulce is amazing, one of the most beautifull parts of Guatemala! The captain pases the famous castle San Felipe, a bird island, steep cliffs next to the river, dense jungle, local fishermen in their canoos, dozens of little villages next to the water.

Highlight is a stop half way at the natural hot water springs: a place at the shore of the river where boiling water comes out of the rocks! Wear your bathing suite because you get the chance to swim here!

Livingston is nice to walk around and get to know the tipìcal garifuna culture! Since Livingston lies at the sea there are some great sea food restaurants!

Good places to stay around Livingston:

  • Finca Tatin (by far the best place around)
