About us

  Los Amigos was opened in june 2004 by me, Matthias and my local girl-friend Erica. I had left Holland a year before to travel and visit my brother who was working in Guatemala. It was never my plan to settle in Guatemala but the beauty of Central America combined with that of my girlfriend Erica made my decision easy! I lost my plainticket back, my parents cleared my flat out and now I was a dutch Chapin!

Erica had been working in various restaurants and we came to the idea of starting out something for ourselves: The first Youth Hostel in Flores... Originally I am a journalist and photographer and doing this was one big jump in the blank... but looking back it was the best jump I've ever made!

The first days we were going crazy running around like crazy chicken but after two weeks we were saved by a mysterious stranger coming out of the jungle: Jeronimo, the third face behind Los Amigos!

It turned out to be a perfect combination! Ericas miracles in the kitchen with Jeronimos creativity and green eye and my... whatever... made it real fun working together. Since that day the three of us worked every day with love, sweat and tears to create something special in the heart of Flores!

But the place was really made by you guys, all the hundreds of backpackers who choose to visit this new place, that wasn't in any giude book yet! Spreading the word and filling the place with laughter and positivity! Thanks...
